“RESTLESS: A Novel, by William Boyd (Bloomsbury, $24.95)
“Put this one on your reading list. This is, hands down, the best spy story I’ve read since The Spy Who Came in From the Cold. Totally different from Boyd’s last novel, Any Human Heart, it’s absolutely brilliantly written. You’ll want to read this literary book whether you like spy novels or not.”Nancy Olson, Quail Ridge Books, Raleigh, NC”

I can’t wait. I didn’t know Boyd had a new book. Did you know he’s my favorite contemporary novelist? If you haven’t heard, Any Human Heart is a winner.
I just finished David Kuo’s book, Tempting Faith. I found it tepid. It’s his personal spiritual journey after working in vain to help the poor via George W’s White House. I was looking for some outrage, but it was barely there. Wait for the paperback, if you want to read it. I feel happy for his publisher, however.

I went to Borders today and bought the new Richard Ford book, The Lay of the Land. Will report on that later, after I read the last Lemony Snicket book, The End.

In other news, I had a crappy weekend. My father in law had a stroke, and I got a 24 thowup virus. Not that I’m equating them. I’m not. On the positive side, I voted and now my choices have been made.

Tree, Kuo’s been around the talk show circuit. I haven’t decided what to make of him, but I probably won’t read his book.

How are your F-in-L and Husband doing?

A 24 hr throw up virus is not good!

I think Kuo’s well-meaning, but he still harbors a Clinton grudge yet had nothing to say about any of the Bush failures he witnessed while he was there. He calls for a two-year fast from politics for all Christians, but I think that’s a copout. Why not rally the faithful to make some signficant change?

My FIL is still in the hospital, and he can’t yet speak. Mr. Tree has been visiting every day. It’s sad.

I am not throwing up any more.
